The rough gemstone is a genuine blue opal from Peru, all natural, earth-mined and untreated. A gorgeous blue color with black dendritic inclusions. The surface has both matte and polished areas. Held against the light the opal is slightly translucent. Gemstone weight is 28.6 carats.

Safely set into a sterling silver setting, made for this stone only and adjusted to a perfect fit. Dark oxidized. Bail opening is 6mm.

Peruvian Opal, also called Blue Opal or Andean Opal is quite rare and only found in the Andes mountains near San Patricio, Peru. A translucent stone, with a blue-green color that resembles the Caribbean Sea. The color is caused by fine traces of copper, that are trapped within the crystal structure. Peruvian Opals show no pleochroism (play of color) that is typical for other opals.
