The Houston Aeros were originally set to be the Dayton Arrows, but could not find a suitable arena. The team instead began the 1972 in Houston and quickly established itself as one of the most successful teams in the WHA. Bill Dineen coached every season for the team which made the playoffs in every season and won back to back AVCO Cups in 1974 and 1975. When it became clear that the Aeros would not be included in the NHL merger, the team folded in 1978.
