There are over 15 different species of sandalwood, but the popular ones are Indian and Australian sandalwoods. The main constituents in sandalwood are alpha santalol and beta santalol. The concentration of these constituents is different in both species. Australian sandalwood essential oil is steam distilled from Australian sandalwood.
